Position Summary

Sutherland Institute seeks a highly capable Marketing Manager to lead the organization’s digital marketing. This role owns Sutherland’s digital presence—including email marketing, social media, digital advertising, website publishing, and analytics—and ensures our ideas reach policymakers, donors, media, and the public.

 

The Marketing Manager combines strategic thinking and hands-on technical capability to expand the reach and impact of Sutherland’s policy work.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Marketing Leadership

  • Manage Sutherland’s full digital marketing ecosystem: email, social media, advertising, and website
  • Use analytics to identify trends and optimize marketing strategy

Email and Communications

  • Build and distribute Sutherland’s four weekly newsletters
  • Draft and send press announcements and event communications
  • Maintain healthy email lists with proper segmentation and deliverability best practices

Social Media and Website Content

  • Manage and publish social media content across platforms
  • Manage digital ad campaigns, including optimizing performance, across platforms including Meta and Google Ads
  • Help prepare short-form video content aligned with Sutherland’s brand voice
  • Publish and maintain website content, including blogs, research, and event pages

Analytics and Reporting

  • Track media coverage using monitoring tools and maintain marketing analytics dashboards
  • Monitor advertising performance and track marketing ROI
  • Support development team reporting with marketing metrics for donors

Technology and Systems

  • Maintain digital marketing infrastructure and tools including:
    • WordPress
    • Google Analytics and Tag Manager
    • Campaign Monitor
    • Critical Mention
    • Advertising platforms
    • Automation tools and integrations

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sutherland’s communications, policy, and development teams
  • Share oversight of communications interns and assist in coordinating communications projects

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience managing email marketing and digital campaigns
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics and performance tracking
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Comfort working with digital marketing tools and web publishing platforms

Preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in digital marketing, communications, or nonprofit marketing
  • Experience in public policy, think tanks, or mission-driven organizations
  • Familiarity with digital advertising platforms such as Meta Ads and Google Ads
  • Technical familiarity with web publishing, automation tools, or marketing integrations

Location

Our office is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. We maintain a hybrid work schedule for all in-state staff and have both in-state and remote employees. In-state candidates are preferred for this position, but exceptional remote candidates will be considered.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Expected salary range is $60,000-$80,000. Sutherland offers a health plan, 401k plan, and a flex PTO policy.
