JOB TITLE:                        Child Development Teacher (20) – Gridley, CA                                     

 

WORK YEAR:                   Full time: 7.5 hours per day/Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm/11 months/186 days annually (Prorated upon hire) Approximately 10 extra duty days throughout the year.                                                                                                                                   

START DATE:                   As soon as possible after Interviews.

 

SALARY:                           Salary Schedule 04CD, Range 2, $22.67 to $26.62 per hour. This position is exempt from overtime. Annual stipend pay: Master’s $1,200 or Doctorate $2,000 (Prorated upon hire)

 

Child Development positions will be initially placed according to verified years of experience of like licensed or permitted employment as defined below.

  • 0 – 5 years, Step A
  • 6 – 10 years, Step B
  • 11 years or more, Step C

 

BENEFITS:                        Generous benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision for employee and dependents. Sick leave accrued. $50,000 of employer-paid life insurance provided. This position qualifies for CalSTRS retirement.  The employee contribution rate for CalSTRS is either 10.25% or 10.205% of monthly earnings depending on the membership date.

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Direct Service Coordinator or designee, the Child Development Teacher is responsible for the implementation of a high-quality, comprehensive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate early care and education program meeting the individual needs of young children and their families. The Teacher will facilitate and guide children’s learning and problem-solving abilities as individuals and in small and large groups in a variety of activities involving fundamental language, social, emotional, and cognitive development, both in the classroom and on the playground. The Child Development Teacher will develop and implement curriculum and daily activities, an effective learning environment, conduct child assessment and recordkeeping, and supervise and interact with young children. The Child Development Teacher will promote positive growth and development through offering high-quality preschool program, while also supporting parents toward family health and stability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily works in an indoor classroom or playground environment with furniture and equipment built to accommodate children 2-5 years of age.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (May include, but not limited to the following):

  1. Implement elements of the high-quality early childhood education program 
  2. Ensure that the cognitive, physical, social emotional, creative needs, and educational needs of students are met
  3. Assist the Site Supervisor in performing regular inspections to ensure a safe, orderly, and appropriate learning environment outdoors and indoors in accordance with community care licensing Title 22 and Title 5 regulations
  4. For positions assigned to a Children’s Center Collaborative site, ensure full adherence to all applicable Head Start Performance Standards 
  5. Engage children through instructional strategies to facilitate learning and optimal progress across the domains of development
  6. Participate in curriculum development and implementation, to provide a quality children’s program including group time, transitions, and learning activities
  7. Conduct child observation, record keeping, and assessment processes to track children’s progress and learning, including the Desired Results Developmental Profile process
  8. Interact with families and participate in parent conferences
  9. Implement elements of the nutrition program, including breakfast and/or snack in compliance with Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations
  10. Support classroom staff
  11. Embrace and participate in supplementary support service programs
  12. Assist in bathroom support for children in the toilet learning process, including pull-up and diaper changing (if applicable)
  13. Participate in case meetings, child and family study team meetings, and incorporate Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives when necessary 
  14. Cooperate with speech therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, behavior consultants, and other ancillary support personnel

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Knowledge of:

  1. Early childhood development. Including but not limited to social/emotional and trauma informed practice, language and literacy, cognitive and physical development
  2. The California Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF)
  3. Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Environmental Rating Scale (ERS), Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and CLASS Environments
  4. Title 22 and Title 5 regulations 
  5. Positive guidance and behavior support
  6. Principles of confidentiality, collaboration, and professionalism

Ability to:

  1. Apply principles and practices supporting child development and high-quality early childhood education
  2. Implement a development-based curriculum, including activities and experiences with integrated multicultural and anti-bias elements, using effective instructional strategies
  3. Work and interact effectively with children and families from diverse populations, cultures, and backgrounds
  4. Communicate and work cooperatively, effectively, and collaboratively with all staff
  5. Demonstrate a reliable, punctual, and stable working style in the performance of assignments
  6. Display stability, tact, flexibility, respect, and support in interactions with children, parents, staff, and the community
  7. Ensure children’s success and learning
  8. Work productively with independent initiative
  9. Support families in their effort toward success and stability
  10. Participate as an integral member of Early Education Programs and Services

Certification, Experience, and Training:

  1. Hold a valid and unexpired California Child Development Teacher Permit or qualify for a Child Development Teacher Permit by meeting the attached Permit criteria
  2. Experience working directly with preschool-age children preferred
  3. Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) approved Pediatric First Aid and CPR certified and Preventative Health and Safety (required within 90 days of hire)

Child Development Teacher Permit Requirements

Authorization

A Child Development Teacher Permit authorizes the holder to provide service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program, and supervise a CDP Associate Teacher, a CDP Assistant, and an aide.

 

Requirements

To qualify for the Child Development Teacher Permit, individuals must satisfy all of the requirements listed in one of the following options:

 

Option 1

  1. Complete all General Requirements (see Terms and Definitions)**
  2. Complete 16 semester units in general education, including at least one course in each of the following areas: humanities and/or fine arts, social sciences, math and/or science, and English and/or language arts.
  3. Complete 175 days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child care and development program, working at least three hours per day within the last four years. This experience must be verified by submitting an original letter from the employer on official letterhead.

School-Age Emphasis under this option requires that 12 of the 24 semester units of early childhood education/child development be in school-age course work.

Option 2

  1. Complete an associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or a related field.
  2. Complete three semester units or four quarter units of supervised field experience in an early childhood education setting
    • School-Age Emphasis under this option may be obtained by completion of an associate degree or higher in school-age education, including three semester units of supervised field experience in an early childhood education setting.

 

Term and Renewal

The Child Development Teacher Permit is issued for five years and is renewable for successive five-year periods upon completion of 105 hours of professional growth. This permit may be renewed online. Permit holders who complete the requirements for a higher level permit within three years of the date of initial issuance may submit verification of completion of requirements, an application (form 41-4 Open PDF in current window.) for the higher level permit, and half the application processing fee. 

 

** General Requirements (Required for the Teacher, Master Teacher, Site Supervisor and Program Director Permit levels)

 

Completion of 24 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development, including at least one three-semester unit (or four-quarter unit) course in each of the following core areas:

  • Child/human growth and development
  • Child, family, and community, or child and family relations
  • Programs/curriculum

 

The following may be used as partial fulfillment of the 24-semester unit requirement:

  1. Supervised field experience may be used towards the overall 24-semester unit requirement as long as the course included both a field work and classroom component. The same field work course may not be used toward the experience requirement. Submission of a course description may be necessary, or
  2. Possession of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential may be used as nine semester units of credit toward the overall 24 semester unit requirement.
