Position Type: Part-Time Internship (Fall 2026)
Hours: ~150 hours total (10–15 per week; flexible schedule)
Compensation: $15 / hour
Reports to: Communications Specialist
Position Summary
Eastern Mennonite School, a K-12 learning community, is seeking a creative, motivated, and organized student to join the Advancement team as a Communications & Events Intern. This project-based internship offers hands-on experience in digital marketing, storytelling, and event planning, with a focus on supporting Homecoming (third weekend in October). The internship could be extended into the spring semester if there is mutual interest.
The intern will play an active role in telling the EMS story online, while gaining practical experience in nonprofit communications and alumni engagement. This role requires an individual who can work collaboratively to enhance our school's presence both online and through community engagement in person. Responsibilities will be tailored to the intern’s skills, interests, and career goals.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Communications & Marketing
- Create, curate, and publish engaging content for social media (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn)
- Design digital graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar tools
- Assist with email marketing campaigns and newsletters
- Support website updates, blog posts, and event pages
- Promote school programs, performances, and advancement initiatives
Storytelling, Writing, Photography & Video
- Write short stories and features highlighting students, alumni, faculty, and school life
- Capture and organize photography for marketing and events
- Assist with basic photo editing and media organization
- Create short-form video content for social media and event promotion
Events & Homecoming
- Assist in planning and promotion of Homecoming and other fall events
- Create pre-event promotional content (social posts, graphics, email messaging)
- Support event logistics including setup, hospitality, and coordination
- Capture photo/video content during events
- Assist with post-event communications including recaps and thank-you messaging
Alumni & Advancement Support
- Assist with alumni communications and engagement efforts
- Support event tracking, RSVP lists, and outreach
- Help prepare digital and print materials for Advancement initiatives

Collaboration
- Work closely with the Advancement Team, including Communications Specialist, Alumni & Events Coordinator, Admissions, and Director of Advancement
- Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments to gather stories and promote events
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate student
- Strong interest in communications, marketing, media, or event planning
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Professional, positive, and reliable
