Job Description:
Riverlife’s Programming Internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit event planning, promotion, and implementation. Under the guidance of the Director of Programs, the intern will support programming on Riverlife’s Shore Thing, as well as other Riverlife events and activations. This role is ideal for someone eager to build skills in event planning, promotion, and production and with an interest in spending time outside on Pittsburgh’s rivers and riverfronts.
This is a part-time, seasonal internship requiring 15-20 hours per week from May–August 2026 (flexible start and end dates). The position is in-person, with required on-site collaboration and event support.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications include:
Programming & Event Support
- Work on the water and along riverfront trails to assist with Riverlife-led and partner activations.
- Support Programs Department to ensure seamless event execution, including support with load-in and load-out, setup and breakdown.
- Assist with coordination between vendors and performers/artists/facilitators/etc.
- Engage with guests and maintain a quality visitor experience.
- Work with Program Coordinator to develop new programming ideas. Build relationships with local organizations, vendors, artists and communities.
- Manage and monitor supply needs for activations and community engagement efforts.
- Gather and report public feedback to improve future programs.
- Document and share insights from events through photography, video, and storytelling.
- Support Communications Officer and Program Coordinator in promoting Riverlife programs and events as necessary.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Administrative & Research Support
- Attend staff meetings, take notes, and prepare materials as needed.
- Assist with photo and file management for Riverlife’s archives and content library.
- Conduct programming related research as needed.
- Support Program Coordinator in responding to programming related requests and inquiries.
- Provide general office support as needed.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Background or strong interest in public programming and events, particularly in the areas of arts, environmental education and youth programming.
- Commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Strong writing skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive).
- Skills in photography are a plus.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a busy public setting.
- Comfortable working evenings and weekends for special events.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for event setup or supply transport (as needed).
Compensation Details:|
This is a part-time, seasonal internship and reports to the Director of Programs. A monthly stipend of $1,000/month will be provided.
