Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (LBFE)
LBFE’s philosophy, programs, and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among older adults in Chicago. Friendship and social interactions are critical to everyone’s quality of life. Photos and videos help us share how friendship and connection improve the quality of life for older adults.
The Social Media/Public Relations Intern would support LBFE in capturing photos and creating video vignettes for sharing thorough social media. The Intern would also assist with the creation of regular TikTok posts.
Ideal majors or areas of interest include: Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing, Public Relations; Photography; undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student is preferred.

Specific Job Skills Required
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated creativity with, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and/or LinkedIn.
- Strong editing skills and comfort working with photos or videos.
- Ability to adapt style, tone, and content to LBFE’s Social Media Plan.
- Flexible schedule on Wednesdays (when many LBFE summer events occur)
- Curiosity and willingness to ask questions.
- Interest in photography.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Capture moments each week. Videos may follow themes based on programs (i.e., Summer Programs or Birthday delivery) or other concepts, such as connection, friendship, etc.
- Create a variety of engaging content for our TikTok account, with a goal of one post each week and share videos and pictures when appropriate on other social media accounts.
- Save photos and videos to LBFE’s in-house photo drive (training and access provided)
- Will create content, propose potential posts, share with Development staff, and revise drafts accordingly.
- With the help of LBFE’s Social Media Plan, research and suggest ways to broaden LBFE’s social media presence, build “brand” image, and engage donors, volunteers, community partners, and public at large.
- Document social media engagement monthly: visits, shares, etc.
- Willingness to accompany staff or other interns on visits, day trips, etc. to capture moments of connection between volunteers/staff/interns and older adults.
Learning Objectives
- Organizational management: intern will be able to plan, implement, and manage projects and communicate progress to supervisor.
- Analysis/problem-solving: intern will be able to strategically research, analyze, and solve problems, or make suggestions to improve processes.
- Intern will be able to use the policies laid out in our Social Media Plan, Communications Guide on Reframing Aging, and our LBFE Style Guide to help inform the language, content, and look of posts.
Time Commitment
- 8-16 hours per week, starting in late May, for 10-12 weeks, schedule to be mutually agreed on.
- Role is in-person at LBFE offices at 355 N Ashland Ave.
