Specific Qualifications
To be considered for the Police Officer position, you must meet the following criteria, in addition to the City of Hiawatha standards:
Possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Hold a valid driver’s license.
Complete the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy within 1 year of hire or begin the academy within 1 year of hire.
Maintain a valid peace officer permit to carry a weapon issued by the State of Iowa.
Successfully pass all testing requirements, including written, physical, MMPI, polygraph, and background investigations.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary: $64,313 for non-certified applicants.
Lateral pay for certified applicants: $83,324 with 3 years of service, based on years assigned to patrol.
