Purpose:

Northern Technologies International Corporation (NTIC) is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of comprehensive corrosion management solutions encompassing services, packaging, coatings, and systems. The lab technician, you will assist in the development of products with formulators while maintaining corrosion testing equipment. Reporting to the formulators, the lab technician will work closely with formulating chemists to contribute to the development and enhancement of our product line while overseeing corrosion testing equipment. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of corrosion mitigation and contribute to the success of a dynamic and growing company.  The job is part time up to 40 hours and located in Circle Pines, MN.     

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in formulating water, oil, and solvent based formulations for cleaning and corrosion control
  • Collaborate with formulators to qualify new raw materials
  • Be comfortable working with hazardous chemicals with proper PPE
  • Assist in problem solving raw material and finished good issues
  • Provide support to formulators and technical service to resolve customer related issues
  • Operate, maintain, and repair corrosion testing chambers according to ASTM specifications
  • Prepare lab reports and presentations
  • Input all chemical samples and SDS’s into inventory system
  • Properly dispose of satellite waste containers into designated drums

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, and actively progressing through their sophomore or junior year
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to lift 50 lbs (intermittently) 
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with basic wet lab chemistry testing and techniques (pH, titrations, specific gravity, dilutions, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and respirators 
  • Research experience preferred, but not required

 

 

 

Education:

  • Student in STEM (preferably chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biology)
