About the Position
Eagle’s Nest Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join our privately owned, woman-founded small animal hospital. We’re expanding our emergency and urgent care services and are looking for a veterinarian who wants to practice excellent medicine while maintaining balance and support.
In this role, you’ll handle a variety of emergency and critical cases, from triage and stabilization to diagnostics, surgery, and client communication. You’ll work alongside an experienced support team (8:1 staff-to-doctor ratio) so you can focus on being a doctor, not a desk manager.
Job Description: Work shifts will be primarily nights, weekends, and holidays, with shifts frequently between 5:00 PM and midnight, along with required overnight on-call duty. The Emergency Veterinarian will examine, diagnose, and treat emergency and urgent care cases in small animals, including the performance of emergency surgical procedures and advanced medical management.
Duties include:
Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries; collect and analyze body fluids or tissue samples; and operate diagnostic equipment such as radiographic or ultrasound equipment.
Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medications, performing surgery, dressing wounds, or providing advanced stabilization and critical care.
Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, general care, medical conditions, treatment options, and follow-up care.
Counsel clients regarding euthanasia decisions or the death of their pets with professionalism and compassion; euthanize animals when medically appropriate.
Conduct postmortem studies and analyses as needed to determine causes of death.
Inoculate animals against various diseases and establish testing procedures that prevent the spread of disease in compliance with applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity of patient care.
Train, supervise, and mentor veterinary technicians and assistants.
Participate in lectures, conferences, or continuing education courses to maintain current veterinary knowledge.
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent.
2 years minimum of Emergency or Urgent Care experience
Eligibility for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Willingness to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and on call as part of a rotating emergency schedule.

Guaranteed base salary: $100,000 per year.
