LEAD KINDERGARTEN CAMP COUNSELOR

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Kindergarten Lead Counselor is the primary leader for a group of kindergarten campers at Camp Carey. This role is perfect for classroom teachers, educators, or recreational professionals with experience guiding young learners. Lead Counselors plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, support campers’ social and emotional growth, and ensure each child feels confident, engaged, and valued. They work closely with Assistant Camp Counselors to create a joyful, safe, and well-organized camp experience.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Lead a dedicated group of kindergarten campers throughout the camp session.
  • Design and facilitate creative, age-appropriate activities aligned with weekly camp themes.
  • Manage a weekly supply budget for your group’s activities.
  • Direct daily group activities with support from an Assistant Camp Counselor.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive group community.
  • Mentor Assistant Camp Counselors and Counselors-in-Training (CITs).
  • Collaborate with camp leadership, staff, and parents to support smooth daily operations.
  • Uphold safety policies and maintain a joyful, organized environment.
  • Model positive behavior, energy, and professionalism.
  • Use proactive behavior management strategies to promote inclusion and resolve conflicts.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong leadership, communication, initiative, and mentorship skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment with patience and flexibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with young children in a camp, school, or recreational setting required.
  • Classroom teaching experience or experience leading structured youth programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and facilitating activities and/or curriculum preferred.

DETAILS:

Employment Dates:

  • Staff Training: June 16-18, 2026
  • Camp Season: June 22-August 7, 2026

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday; Shifts will fall between 7:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., approximately 8 hours per day.
  • This is a seasonal, non-exempt position.

Compensation:

  • $25-$30 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
