Three undergraduate research assistant positions are available for Summer 2026 at the Entomology Laboratory at Virginia Tech's Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center (Blackstone, Virginia), College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The center is located approximately an hour from downtown Richmond and 40 minutes from Petersburg, VA. 

Selected candidates will contribute to laboratory and/or field experiments supporting four projects on insect-transmitted plant viruses (1), soil health (1), and integrated pest management (2). 

Job responsibilities will vary, but may include sample collection, insect and plant handling, data recording, and assisting with molecular or other laboratory procedures. Prior research experience and familiarity with molecular (tissue sampling, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR) and analytical chemistry (GC-MS, HPLC) techniques are preferred. Training will be provided.

Students are expected to participate in an industry tour and present their results and experience to stakeholders toward the end of the summer.
