Program Specialist (Part-Time), Non-Exempt
Rate: $13.00 hourly
Pay Grade: PT | Starting salary based on prior experience and education.
Location: Environmental Learning Center, Concord, OH 44077
Position Description: Under the direction of the Outdoor Connections Manager, the part-time Program Specialist delivers educational and recreational programming for K–12 students, families, and the general public, with a focus on outdoor recreation skills, environmental education, and life sciences. This position also supports summer camp programming from June through August and assists with facility operations and special events.
Must be flexible to work up to 28 hours per week, including weekdays, weekends, some evenings, and holidays. Average 28–38 hours per week during the summer season.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Presents educational and recreational programs to schools, youth groups, families, and the general public.
- Assists with the planning, preparation, and delivery of summer camps and seasonal programs.
- Provides coverage at the front desk at various facilities as needed.
- Acts as a room host for facility rentals at the Environmental Learning Center, Lakefront Lodge, Penitentiary Glen Nature Center, and Painesville Township Park.
- Assists with preparation and on-site support for special events.
- Maintains program areas, materials, and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in recreation, environmental education, natural or physical science, education, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with and/or teaching children required.
- One (1) to two (2) years of boating experience (kayak/canoe/stand-up paddleboard) preferred; instructional or coaching experience preferred.
- Motorboat experience preferred.
- Proficient in computers, web-based programs, email, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to use Google Meet, Zoom, Skype, and Microsoft Teams.
Position Requirements:
- Must complete and maintain all mandatory Park District training, which may include emergency communication, hazardous materials, PPE, sexual harassment, workplace violence prevention, and fire prevention.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Agency’s policy.
- Ohio Boater Education Course required by the start of the boating season.
- Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions and follow an irregular schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to perform physical labor and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to safely operate basic office equipment and light program-related tools.
- Ability to stimulate interest and excitement about programs and Lake Metroparks.
- Ability to interact with others with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to define problems, collect information, and apply sound judgment.
