Environmental Science Research Intern for Summer of 2026

Internship Overview

SePRO is seeking a motivated Environmental Science Research Intern to support research efforts aimed at improving water quality through the management of harmful algal blooms and invasive aquatic vegetation. This internship offers hands-on experience in applied environmental research with real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with research related to harmful algal blooms and invasive aquatic plant management
  • Support field sampling activities (water, sediment, algae, or vegetation)
  • Assist with laboratory analysis and data collection (as applicable)
  • Organize, analyze, and interpret environmental data
  • Conduct literature reviews on water quality, HABs, and aquatic ecosystem management
  • Maintain accurate research records and data logs
  • Contribute to technical reports, summaries, and presentations

 

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Water Resources, or a related field
  • Strong interest in water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and environmental protection
  • Basic understanding of environmental or ecological research methods
  • Ability to work outdoors and in field conditions (as applicable)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

 

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Experience with field sampling techniques or laboratory work
  • Familiarity with water quality parameters (e.g., nutrients, chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen)
  • Experience with data analysis software (Excel, R, GIS, or similar)
  • Previous coursework or experience related to HABs or invasive species
