Sustainable Energy Fellow

The Network for a Sustainable Tomorrow (NeST) is seeking a passionate, driven, and creative leader dedicated to promoting clean energy in the Southern Tier with an equity lens. Founded in 2008 as the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, NEST is a non-profit based in Binghamton that operates a variety of programs working towards social, environmental, and economic justice and equity in our region.
Our ideal candidate for a Sustainable Energy Fellow would have a background in clean energy and/or community outreach, and a strong desire to help increase access to clean energy, especially for those in marginalized communities.
Terms
This is a hybrid, hourly position that starts in June of 2026, with no predetermined end date. The majority of hours worked will be remote. Most in-person work involved community events and meetings in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Delaware Counties. Your own transportation is required.
Rate: $25/hour, no fringe benefits. $180 monthly cell phone stipend. Raises and conversion to a full-time, exempt position are possible, depending on performance and available funding.
Hours: Flexible to accommodate school, although being a current student is not required. 35 hours per week during the summer and ~25 hours per week per Academic semester (Fall and/or Spring).
Responsibilities

Energy Corps Internship Supervisor (40%)
- Organize and facilitate weekly virtual meetings with 3-5 undergraduate and graduate interns, creating meeting agendas for each one.
- Review intern work products across a range of roles including marketing, event coordination, case management, fundraising, and web development.
- Devise projects and delegate tasks. (Once trained, interns support or carry out many of the tasks in this job description)
- Pursue additional projects with community partners, coordinating intern support for each one.
- Each intern should continue and/or complete one Long-term Project per intern term

Binghamton Community Power (BCP) & Clean Energy Programs Event Coordination (40%)
- Coordinate Binghamton Community Power, a program that uses education and capacity building to make clean energy upgrades, home energy efficiency improvements, and clean energy careers more accessible in disadvantaged communities across Binghamton.
- Facilitate biweekly BCP planning committee meetings and monthly Binghamton 2 Degrees Energy and Housing Working Group meetings, bringing together the perspectives of professionals from across the Binghamton metro area’s public sector.
- Coordinate with community partners to hold educational events and tabling sessions relating to program materials.
- Implement a surveying and data collection process collecting information on the barriers community members face to making home electrification and weatherization improvements in their homes.
- Oversee quarterly BCP reporting responsibilities.
- Organize educational presentation events (in-person and virtual) for major NeST programs including Clean Energy Career Pathways, Check NYSEG, and HeatSmart Southern Tier, combining these whenever possible.
- Coordinate with dozens of community partners to host and promote events
- Communicate clearly with potential clients during events, and via email, about our different programs.
- Create informative and engaging ways to connect with a diverse group of audiences
- Oversee NeST’s general social media strategy (Facebook, Instagram)

Administrative responsibilities for Staff (15%)
- Facilitate weekly Staff meetings
- Attend weekly fundraising meetings
- Maintain a weekly “To-Do’s” spreadsheet to inform both staff and interns about their weekly tasks

Installer partner coordination (5%)
- Act as liaison for any necessary communication
- Organize and facilitate monthly meetings
Necessary Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
- Excellent interpersonal skills (one-on-one and in a group format), written and oral communication skills
- Experience in community-based outreach and education
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Demonstrated commitment to environmentalism and economic and racial justice
- Self-motivation, resourcefulness, and creativity
- Experience in project management
- Ability to take initiative, self-manage and remain flexible
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to manage multiple agendas and operate effectively
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and allies
- Cultural competency and proven ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
- Competency with email, google suites, and other common computer programs
