Focus: Accessibility assessments, site visits, and improvement recommendations
Overview
The Destination Accessibility Intern helps ensure Huntingdon County’s attractions, restaurants, lodging properties and public spaces are welcoming and accessible to all visitors. This position conducts in-person site visits to evaluate accessibility features, documents findings and develops practical recommendations that help local businesses improve visitor experience and inclusivity. This role is ideal for someone observant, analytical and passionate about equitable travel experiences.
Responsibilities
- Visit local attractions, restaurants, lodging properties and tourism sites to assess accessibility features
- Evaluate elements such as entrances, pathways, restrooms, seating, parking, signage and overall visitor navigation
- Document findings through notes, checklists, photos and reports
- Compile accessibility profiles for participating businesses
- Develop clear, constructive recommendations for accessibility improvements
- Communicate professionally with business owners and partners
- Assist in organizing accessibility information for website listings or visitor resources
Preferred Skills
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills
- Excellent written communication and reporting ability
- Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
- Comfortable visiting locations independently and interacting with business staff
- Interest in tourism, hospitality, public relations or accessibility advocacy
- Basic knowledge of ADA guidelines or universal design principles is a plus (not required)
