Digital Media & Film Teacher

Rowlett Academy seeks an innovative and creative Elementary Digital Media/Film Teacher to inspire students through hands-on experiences in digital storytelling, media production, and creative technology.

The Digital Media/Film Teacher develops students’ creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills through project-based learning experiences in video production, photography, digital design, and media literacy. The ideal candidate fosters a safe, engaging, and forward-thinking learning environment while promoting responsible digital citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Digital Media, Film, Education, Communications, or related field
  • Valid Florida Teaching Certificate or eligibility certificate
  • Experience in digital media production, video editing, or film preferred
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of digital storytelling, video production, photography, and basic film techniques
  • Proficiency in video editing software and digital creation tools
  • Understanding of media literacy and digital citizenship principles
  • Ability to design engaging, project-based learning experiences
  • Strong classroom management skills appropriate for elementary students
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and student voice
  • Familiarity with production of elementary news show production

 

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum 

  • Develop and implement a standards-aligned digital media and film curriculum appropriate for elementary students
  • Teach foundational skills in video production, editing, photography, and storytelling
  • Guide students through hands-on projects such as short films, news segments, documentaries, and digital presentations
  • Incorporate lessons on digital citizenship, online safety, and ethical media use
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records

Creative Production & School Media

  • Oversee student-created media projects and productions
  • Support school-wide media initiatives such as announcements, promotional videos, event coverage and school performances
  • Maintain and manage digital media equipment and technology resources
  • Ensure safe and responsible use of technology and equipment

Collaboration & School Engagement

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate digital media into core academic content
  • Support school events and programs through media production
  • Communicate with families regarding student projects and achievements
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development

School Culture & Professional Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission and values of Rowlett Academy
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and collaboration
  • Model professionalism and responsible digital conduct

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom for extended periods
  • Ability to move from building to building on the campus
  • Ability to speak and hear clearly for communication
  • Ability to use both gross and fine motor skills for use with instructional materials
  • Ability to lift and manage media equipment up to 30 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to supervise students in classroom, production settings and other school settings
