Crayfish Ecology Field Research — South Texas

Two paid undergraduate research technician positions are available to assist with a crayfish ecology and conservation project in South Texas. Fieldwork will begin this spring (after spring break), with the majority of sampling occurring during the summer months (May–August).
Technicians will help conduct field surveys for crayfish across a range of aquatic habitats in South Texas. Work will include sampling, handling organisms, collecting environmental data, and assisting with general field logistics. The position will involve overnight and multi-day field trips, often in remote locations.
Pay and Time Commitment
$12.00/hour, up to 400 total hours per position.

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic science, fisheries, animal science, or related fields who want hands-on research experience. Student must be enrolled in the Fall 2026 semester to be hired.
Expectations and Requirements
Applicants should have a strong work ethic, be comfortable working outdoors in sometimes uncomfortable conditions, and be willing to get wet, muddy, and dirty. Fieldwork can involve heat, insects, long days, and physically demanding conditions, so reliability, teamwork, and a positive attitude are essential.
Students will gain substantial hands-on experience in field ecology, species monitoring, and applied conservation research.
