Analytical Chemist

Job Summary:

The Analytical Chemist is responsible for supporting the Research & Development (R&D) department through precise chemical testing, data documentation, and sample analysis. This position involves routine laboratory work, including sample preparation, instrument analysis, and report writing, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail. The role requires proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, interpreting analytical data, and adhering to established testing protocols and safety procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and label chemical samples with accuracy, maintaining clear and organized documentation
  • Perform analytical testing using a range of laboratory instruments, including:
    • Infrared Spectroscopy (IR)
    • ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy)
    • Ion Chromatography
    • SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy)
  • Conduct standard wet chemistry techniques for quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Perform elemental analysis and material characterization for the identification of unknown deposits
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical instruments as needed
  • Record data clearly and thoroughly in lab notebooks and digital logs
  • Compile and organize analytical findings into structured, detailed reports for review by senior technical staff
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), lab safety guidelines, and good laboratory practices (GLP)
  • Communicate findings and issues effectively with the R&D team and contribute to collaborative problem-solving
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (or equivalent) is required
  • Experience operating analytical laboratory equipment is strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of chemical principles and calculations
  • Ability to prepare and analyze solutions with precision
  • High attention to detail and consistency in performing repetitive or procedural tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Capable of maintaining organization and clarity in lab records and data reports

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals, solvents, and laboratory equipment
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and safely handle chemical substances
  • Will involve occasional lifting of items up to 30-50lbs
