Position Summary:
Wilkes Youth Life Development is seeking a full time Finance Director to oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This on site role in North Wilkesboro will provide both strategic financial leadership and hands on fiscal oversight.
The Finance Director will develop and maintain organization wide, program, and grant specific budgets; prepare accurate financial statements and reports; track and manage grant spend down; prepare monthly and quarterly grant financial status reports; monitor donor contributions; ensure compliance with financial regulations; and provide financial insights that support strong leadership decision making.
This role is essential to ensuring WYLD’s continued growth, fiscal integrity, and long term sustainability.
WYLD understands that nonprofit finance is a specialized field. The Finance Director will work closely with the Executive Director and receive mentorship and guidance from the WYLD Board Treasurer, who will provide support and training related to nonprofit accounting standards, grant compliance, and financial best practices. We are open to candidates who demonstrate strong financial aptitude and a desire to grow in nonprofit financial leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and maintain the annual organizational budget
- Create and maintain program level and grant specific budgets
- Lead long range financial forecasting and scenario planning
- Provide regular financial analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
- Support funding strategy development by aligning financial data with growth goals
Budget Development and Oversight
- Create and maintain organization, program, and grant budgets
- Monitor budget to actual performance on a monthly basis
- Work with program leaders to ensure responsible budget management
- Adjust projections as needed based on revenue changes or grant modifications
Grant Financial Management
- Track grant spend down across all active funding sources
- Prepare and submit monthly or quarterly grant financial status reports as required
- Ensure proper cost allocation and documentation in accordance with grant agreements
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and foundation guidelines
- Maintain organized documentation for monitoring visits and audits
Donation and Revenue Tracking
- Track and reconcile all donor contributions, including individual, corporate, and foundation gifts
- Ensure accurate recording of restricted and unrestricted donations
- Support reconciliation between donor management systems and accounting records
- Provide donation and revenue reports to leadership to support fundraising strategy
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Oversee preparation of monthly financial statements
- Manage general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
- Maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Prepare financial reports for the Board of Directors
- Coordinate annual audit and Form 990 preparation
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and applicable regulations
- Maintain financial policies and procedures
- Safeguard organizational assets and maintain appropriate financial controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field strongly encouraged
- We welcome candidates who are early in their careers, including recent MPA or MBA graduates with strong financial training
- Demonstrated understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to learn and apply nonprofit accounting principles and grant compliance requirements
- Experience with grants, government funding, or nonprofit finance is helpful but not required
- CPA certification is a plus but not required
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and support the mission of youth and community development
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $41,600.00 - $52,000.00 per year
