Internship Summary 

Sister Cities International is seeking 3 interns to assist with membership, marketing, program, and administrative support in the citizen diplomacy field. Interns will work part-time, 20-25 hours a week for a minimum of 3 months. Upon completion of a 3-month term, interns will receive a $500 stipend. The start and end dates of this internship are flexible, but preference is for May to September. Although interns will have their designated tasks, they are encouraged and expected to offer support in other departments when needed.

In this position, you will work with all departments (i.e., Membership, Programs, Marketing, and Operations) to assist the office staff with day-to-day and ongoing tasks. Interns are an integral part of the staff at Sister Cities International. 

 

Potential Internship Tasks 

Membership & Donor Management 

• Assist with managing the SCI Member Database 

• Assist with data entry of donor information to the “donor wall” on the SCI website 

• Support the Membership Department with current and potential member communication 

Marketing & Design 

• Assist with updating the SCI Membership Directory 

• Help write and edit SCI's Annual Report 

• Support the Communications and Programs Departments with event-related tasks 

• Work with the marketing team to update the website and social media content, as necessary 

Administrative Support 

• Review the SCI website, report any language or technical issues 

• Respond to phone calls, email, and other correspondence from internal & external members and volunteers 

• Digitize documents related to past programs and MOUs (in the Washington DC office) 

Program Support 

• Assist SCI staff with upcoming Global Conversations, Member Roundtables, Young Artists and Authors Showcase, Leadership Meetings, Annual Awards, Youth Leadership Summit, and other programs 

• Help prepare program materials such as application forms, agendas, press releases, and curriculum documents 

• Assist SCI staff with in-person and online logistics for events, webinars, and meetings 

• Provide other necessary administrative and project support 

 

Qualifications 

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills 

• Strong writing, editing, and online research skills 

• Ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment 

• Close attention to detail 

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, and fluency in Microsoft Office Suite 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Nonprofit experience is welcomed 

• Database management experience is welcomed

International students studying in the U.S. are eligible, but they must hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization if they are receiving compensation for the internship. All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official or Responsible Officer for visas at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to complete an internship at Sister Cities International. 

Sister Cities International will NOT sponsor visas for interns. If you are an international student not already studying in the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa, then you must go through a university exchange program or an outside organization (internship placement agency) that will sponsor your visa.
