Assistant Manager, Play Operations

The Assistant Manager, Play Operations serves as the museum’s daily Manager on Duty (MOD) and is responsible for the successful oversight of museum floor operations. The Assistant Manager will work across departments to ensure high-quality playful visitor experience and excellent customer service to all museum visitors. This position will coordinate play and family experiences in museum exhibits and programming spaces, oversee daily floor operations, and be responsible for scheduling floor coverage and other administrative duties in the Museum Learning department.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibility
  • Actively coordinates and oversees Museum Learning floor staff in all areas related to playful visitor experience and daily floor operations on the museum floor including exhibit engagement and maintenance, program facilitation, opening and closing procedures of exhibits, staff scheduling, training, and carousel operation.
  • Creates and maintains monthly Museum Learning staff schedule to ensure all areas of the museum floor are staffed appropriately.
  • Makes timely, sound judgment calls when addressing visitor and/or staff concerns, remaining calm, thoughtful, and fair with the goal of resolving issues efficiently and positively.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Serves as the Museum’s main MOD. Daily MOD duties include, but are not limited to, adapting staff schedule changes and updates, addressing visitor concerns, completion of daily operations reports, implementing necessary safety procedures, leading start and end of day staff huddles, conducting museum rounds to ensure exhibits are set and safe for play, and completing relevant incident reports.
  • Coordinates with all Museum departments involved in the playful visitor experience, including but not limited to, Museum Learning, Admissions, Events, Group Sales, Exhibits, Operations, Marketing, IT and Security, and assists departments with tasks related to daily floor operations as needed.
  • Acts as the point of contact for all post-admissions visitor issues and concerns, resolving them tactfully, effectively, and as quickly as possible.
  • Monitors and responds to staff communication channels such as Teams messages and Relay calls and is actively involved in resolving all safety and security codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, youth development, hospitality or related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience required.
  • Must be able to effectively supervise and motivate staff in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education and play-based learning principles commonly used in preschool and elementary education programs preferred.
  • Detail-oriented individual who can also keep an eye towards the big picture & considers the whole experience in their planning.
