About the Position
Join our dynamic team at Weir Farm National Historical Park for an unforgettable adventure as a Visitor Service Intern! This paid 28-week internship offers a generous weekly stipend of $719 and the chance to earn an AmeriCorps Education Award. Your journey with us begins in April or May 2026 and runs through mid-November, working 40 hours per week from Wednesday to Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday off. This incredible opportunity is open to youth aged 30 or under and US Veterans aged 35 or under.

If you're a recent or upcoming graduate interested in natural and cultural resource preservation, education, interpretation, recreation, resource management, or a career with the National Park Service, this program is your gateway to hands-on experience and professional growth.
Internship Responsibilities
As a Visitor Service Intern, you will:
- Lead exciting public programs, including tours of the Weir House, hands-on service-learning projects, and engaging curriculum-based education activities.
- Be the face of Weir Farm at the visitor center and the Weir and Young Studios, providing information and informal interpretation to visitors.
- Contribute your creativity to the park’s web-based, digital, and social media platforms.
- Participate in vibrant public outreach programs.
- Support our Art in the Park programs by assisting with art workshops and managing art supplies.
- Lead groups of enthusiastic students during educational activities.
- Undertake a unique engagement project based on your skills and interests, such as a web-based tour, publication, or other innovative projects aimed at engaging new audiences.
- Collaborate with curatorial, facilities, and natural resource divisions, occasionally assisting with gardens and grounds maintenance or museum collections work.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- Enthusiasm for visitor service or customer service experience.
- A knack for working with the public, especially youth.
- Stellar interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
- A spirit of adventure, with the ability to bend, lift, and carry.
- A willingness to embrace outdoor work in various temperatures (hot, cool, and humid).
- A proactive attitude towards routine light cleaning and art supply management.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); bonus points for design or web experience.
- The ability to work independently or in a team with park staff.
- A positive attitude, ethical behavior, reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
Additional Information
Important to note:
- This is a 6-month internship ideal for recent or upcoming graduates. This is NOT a summer internship. Although the start date is flexible, you must commit to working full time for the full park season, starting sometime in May and working into November.
- No park housing is available – interns must arrange their own local housing and transportation.
- A valid state driver’s license and successful background investigation are required.
- Interns will work both indoors and outdoors, exposed to hot, humid weather in summer and cooler temperatures in spring and fall.
- Expect long periods of standing or walking while giving interpretive tours and programs, staffing the visitor center, orienting visitors, parking cars, facilitating group visits, and conducting historic housekeeping.
- Interns must clean and organize program supplies, and may also perform desk work that is sedentary in nature.
- Interns are expected to maintain a positive attitude, be highly motivated, and have the ability to work independently as a self-starter, managing their time effectively.
