Major Gifts Officer

 

Salary Range:$110,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

2Life Communities provides superior housing to older adults of all backgrounds who can thrive independently within a supportive environment. We offer case management, service coordination, and a wide array of wellness, cultural, and other activities. We partner with health care providers to identify innovative ways to support residents’ health and well-being, and we engage with the broader community through our Village Center program. 

 

2Life owns and operates over 1,300 units of affordable rental housing located within six campuses in metropolitan Boston. With another 210 apartments under construction and more in planning, we expect to add another 600-700 units within the next several years as we complete projects in active planning and construction phases. We continue to pursue other development opportunities. We anticipate continued growth in the size of our portfolio, the geography in which we operate, and the diversity of our residents in terms of race, ethnicity, income levels, and need for supportive services. 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

 

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) at 2Life Communities is an integral member of the Fund Development Department and will report directly to the Director of Development, and will contribute to the growth of the organization’s major gifts fundraising effort. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of having solicited and closed 5 and 6-figure gifts and experience in developing donor and prospect strategies to ensure that the most advantageous cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans are in place for each major donor. The candidate will carry a portfolio of 100 prospects and donors. The MGO will oversee prospect review meetings to optimize coordination of major donor strategies and will work closely with the Chief Development Officer, CEO, and board members to support their outreach and cultivate specific donors. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Manage a major gift portfolio of 100 high-net-worth donors and prospects.

Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to ensure high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment. 

Develop strategies that prepare solicitors for successful gift requests, demonstrating an understanding of donor interests and their philanthropic habits. 

Enlist the participation of board members, development committee, campaign cabinet, and other volunteer leadership in the solicitation process. 

Take part in the current multi-year, $25M campaign. 

Ensure that donors are kept up to date on key organizational developments. 

Develop revenue goals and benchmarks for major giving to ensure that targets are met, and strategic goals are achieved.

Plan and implement high-level strategic donor cultivation events, enlisting the recruiting hosts and introducing new prospects to the organization. 

Maintain and track major donor strategies and progress by entering contact reports and notes into the Salesforce database.

Oversee giving programs such as a Legacy Society.

Participate in all team activities on an ongoing basis, including meetings, events, and training.

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in fundraising, including a proven track record of successful solicitation and major donor acquisition strategies.

Experience in moves management, assessing capacity through prospect research, and managing donor relations.

Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence, with the ability to interact successfully with donors, board members, work colleagues, and the public at large.

Knowledge and experience with Google Suite and Salesforce are a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to inform and inspire. 

Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

Ability to build strong internal partnerships and work within cross-functional teams.

Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to a changing environment.

Highly motivated self-starter; able and willing to take initiative and action.

Capital Campaign experience is preferred.
