AmeriCorps School Intern
Communities In Schools of San Antonio's (CIS-SA) internship program funded by the AmeriCorps grant is a great way to get hands-on professional experience in the field of social work, counseling and social service fields while earning money for school.
You will be placed directly in a high-need public school under the supervision of an experienced CIS Site Coordinator and engage in the following activities:
- Provide intentional case-management and supportive guidance services to a minimum of 5 to 15 economically disadvantaged students who are at-risk of dropping out of school
- Facilitate small groups to address common barriers among students and provide a supportive environment in which students can build relationships, develop critical skills, and learn from the AmeriCorps Member and their peers
- Participate in weekly supervision sessions and trainings
- Commit to completing a term of service, with 100, 300, 450, or 675-hour terms and options for both the full school year and by semester.

Desired Skills/Background:
- Working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Public Administration / Health or other human / social services field
- Possess a desire and ability to work with underserved youth
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Communication, relationship-building & time management skills
To be eligible for the AmeriCorps program, applicants must:
- Be 17 years or older
- Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens
- Pass a national service criminal history check (FBI fingerprinting, state of service check, and national sex offender registry check)
- Received a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Must serve a minimum of 100, 300, 450 or 675 hours according to the service terms listed on the contract.
