Medical Technologist Student

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree and at least 6 credits in biology and 6 credits in chemistry to participate in our paid, one-year on-site Medical Technologist training program.

This program provides hands-on laboratory training while you earn a salary. Upon successful completion of the 12-month program, participants will receive an increase in pay and a bonus. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a rewarding career in healthcare!

 

Training and Learning Opportunities

During the training program, you will receive structured instruction and hands-on experience in:

  • Microbiology
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Blood Bank

You will also learn essential laboratory practices including quality control, instrument maintenance, calibration, and other critical laboratory skills.

 

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of licensed Medical Technologists and laboratory leadership, the Medical Technologist Student will:

  • Perform assigned laboratory testing accurately and completely using approved laboratory procedures.
  • Complete testing promptly while meeting laboratory turnaround time expectations for both routine and priority tests.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of reagents and supplies in assigned areas and promote efficient, economical utilization.
  • Learn and assist with quality control processes, proficiency testing, and external quality assurance activities.
  • Review quality control and proficiency testing results with the Laboratory Manager and share relevant findings with staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date procedure manuals in assigned areas in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Health requirements, with annual or bi-annual review.
  • Stay current with new developments in laboratory instrumentation and procedures and suggest opportunities for evaluation and improvement.

 

Education/Experience

  • 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related field.
  • Must have successfully completed a minimum of 6 credit hours in biology.
  • Must have successfully completed a minimum of 6 credit hours in chemistry.

 

Summary

By the end of your training, you will be able to perform clinical laboratory tests that help physicians diagnose heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, pregnancy, liver disorders, kidney disorders, and many other medical conditions. Your work will play a critical role in supporting accurate diagnoses and quality patient care.
