Software Engineer
The Role
Infrastructure and B2B software companies operate complex systems that process millions of requests per day. When something goes wrong, engineering teams need to quickly understand what changed and why - but existing tools make this nearly impossible. While engineers can collect data about every API call, error, and system event, connecting these low-level signals to understand the full picture remains a manual, time-consuming process.
We think current observability tools are broken, and we're out to fix things:
- Imagine your electricity utility bragged about 99.9% service availability, but you were in the .1% of customers without power. Existing tools encourage just that behavior and view of the world. We close that gap and help companies understand their performance and availability data from the perspective of their customers, not faceless aggregates. And we use modern AI to help engineers quickly diagnose why their customers are feeling pain without having to sift through logs with endless string searches themselves.
- Imagine Datadog charged their customers millions of dollars a year and didn't actually help them deliver reliable software or give them access to their own data in the ways they wanted it. You don't have to imagine that. That's actually what they do. We've built our software on modern techniques and tools — "Bring Your Own Cloud" and Apache Iceberg, to name two — that put our customers in control of their data and the economics of their observability tools.
You'll be at the forefront of innovation in this space, responsible for developing the core ingestion and query engines that power our platform. We've architected our system around object storage and open data formats, allowing customers to analyze their data using familiar tools while dramatically reducing costs compared to existing solutions.
We are a small team, so you will also be involved in shaping the company culture, and you’ll see the impact of your contributions first hand by working directly with customers as we iterate on product features.
The Company
Firetiger was founded by **Rustam** and Achille, ex-senior leaders at Cloudflare and Segment. Our product is rooted in operational observability techniques that we developed and applied at Cloudflare and Segment to run mission-critical infrastructure at hyperscale.
We are on a path to do to the Telemetry space what companies like Databricks have done to Business Intelligence. We think that over the next decade, telemetry will be used for a lot more than infrastructure operations, and joining telemetry with other business data will enable customers to extract orders of magnitude more value form it than they have access to today; and we will do this at a fraction of the cost of existing solutions, by leveraging a modern software architecture based on object storage, open data formats, and managed deployments in customers’ cloud infrastructure.
We are backed by Lauren Reeder and Alfred Lin from Sequoia Capital, Matthew Prince (Cloudflare), Calvin French-Owen (Segment), Jean-Denis Greze (Plaid), Jen Taylor (Plaid), and a group of the world’s best investors and operators.
About You
As a software engineer at Firetiger, you will:
- Pair with Achille, Rustam, and other teammates to architect, develop, and operate a ground breaking observability system.
- Work on data ingestion, querying, analysis, and visualization, at the frontier between database engineering, ML, and frontend development.
- Shape our engineering culture; being among the first employees of a high-performing engineering team, you will be an critical partner in the hiring of your peers.
- Go beyond technical work: meet customers, write documentation to get them off the ground, write blog posts or present at meetups and conferences — all might be in the cards!
