Intern Lighting Designer

Intern Lighting Designer

FMS is looking for talented individuals passionate about light. Our designers come from a variety of backgrounds, such as Architecture, Theater, Interior Design, Engineering, Industrial Design, and more. Interns are provided with opportunities and support to become well-rounded, stimulated, and educated designers. We’re looking for students currently enrolled in architecture, theater, or lighting programs to join us in our New York and Seattle studios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with principals, associates, and clients on the development of lighting design concepts.
  • Assist with presentation materials for client and internal use. 
  • Perform lighting calculations, assist with building mockups, and evaluate samples.
  • Assist with preparing project documentation, including drawings, details, fixture specifications, schedules, etc.

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Third-year or later college student in the field of architectural lighting design or a comparable field, including architecture and theater lighting programs. 
  • Proficiency in Revit 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, and rendering/modeling software (SketchUp and Rhino)
  • Experience with AGI32 or other lighting calculation tools
  • Current portfolio demonstrating architectural project work with a strong design sensibility 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Pursuing a degree in architecture, lighting design, or a comparable field
