Registered - Environmental Health Specialist (Onsite Wastewater and Wells
Job Purpose
To promote and protect public health and the environment through education, surveillance, inspection, consultation, and enforcement of local and state laws, rules, and regulations in accordance with proper policies and procedures
Responsibilities
- Evaluate land to determine suitability for installation of on-site ground absorption wastewater systems
- Evaluate installation of on-site ground absorption wastewater systems
- Evaluate sites for location of wells
- Evaluate existing homes for verification of wastewater and water supply systems
- Collect water samples for analysis
- Complete evaluation of alternative system installations
- Investigates nuisance complaints and on-site wastewater system failures
- Attend continuing education meetings and conferences to stay updated on methods and to maintain registered environmental health specialist certification.
- Ability to motivate and educate business and property owners and the consuming public in matters related to protecting and promoting public health.
- Must be able to periodically lift heavy objects, walk over rough terrain, and maneuver in close surroundings.
- Prepare legal documents for presentation of cases to District and Superior courts and appeals before the Board of Health.
