2026 Summer Internship I - Merchandise & Sales

 

Over the summer, Firecracker Sports hosts youth baseball and softball tournaments in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.  Interns, in their respective positions, travel to each of these locations to learn how and help give an impactful youth baseball tournament experience to attendees.

The Merchandise and Sales position and its related duties, are an outstanding and opportune way for students pursuing a career in the business and sales fields to blend their passion with sports to help jump start a career in the field.  Those selected into our internship are given a unique, front line perspective into the organization and logistics of hosting some of the largest youth baseball tournaments in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic!

This program is ideal for students who are interested in Merchandise/Sales Operations.  Interns selected receive a highly competitive compensation and free hotel accommodations during the course of their internship.  (See below for further details.)

 

Submission of a cover letter and a resume to Firecracker Sports is required.

 

Requirements Include:

  • A field of study in Business Admin/Sales or Marketing.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight in a hotel.
  • Reliable personal automobile for travel.
    • Must be able to fit inventory in vehicle (SUV/Truck)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to count and handle money
  • Must be a self starter and have the ability to manage your time and inventory throughout the day.
  • Need to have good communication skills and a friendly and professional disposition.
     

2026 Tournament Schedule 

  1. Please note, some weeks have coinciding tournament schedules. Interns will agree and are then assigned to each tournament and date prior to being hired. Interns will be required to work the aforementioned agreed upon tournaments with a minimum of 6 tournaments and a maximum of 9 tournaments on the dates outlined below.  (Firecracker Sports reserves the right to amend intern schedules at any time based upon the up to date logistical and staffing needs for each tournament.)
  2. All interns will be required to attend training the day before the start of the Memorial Day Patriotic Bash in Providence, RI on Thursday May 21, 2026. This is the official start date of the internship.  Hotel accommodations are also provided for training.
  3. All New England and New York interns will be required to work the Memorial Day Patriotic Bash event, held in those prospective regions. Father’s Day Classic events, held in those prospective regions along with the 4th of July Showcase Classic in Providence, RI and Southeast, MA

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Commuting to tournament hotels and/or venues each agreed upon assigned day.  (Firecracker Sports does not pay additional compensation for meals, tolls incurred, fuel consumption, citations given, or mechanical failures/vehicle damage endured etc. during the course of the internship.  However please see the bonus, fuel, and reimbursement policy in  “Pay, Benefits, Training, and Future Contract/Employment Considerations” below.)
  • Arrive on time at your assigned field and manage all aspects of the tournament in conjunction with your training to ensure everything runs smoothly. In many instances you will be the only person present from Firecracker Sports at your assigned field. 
  • Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working multiple games per day (maximum of 5), confirming the field is ready to play, taking initiative if needed to prep home plate and pitcher's mound between each game if no field crew is present, confirming umpires and teams are on property at reasonable times prior to scheduled game times, making sure games start on time and making sure all games do not run over the 2 hour time limit rule.
  • Keep the score using our Game Changer app and report the score via text messaging to the tournament director after each of the 4 or 5 baseball/softball games you are assigned to that day. Each pitch, play and substitution in the game is required to be recorded in the Game Changer app.  
  • Generate and post content and highlights from games to our social media platforms.
  • Representing Firecracker Sports and presenting yourself in a professional manner at all times and with everyone you become connected with during the course of the tournament. 
  • Attend all Google Meets meetings throughout the internship period.

 

Pay, Benefits, Training and Future Contract/Employment Considerations:

  • Compensation: 9 Tournaments $1500, 8 Tournaments $1250, 7 Tournaments $1000, 6 Tournaments $800 (50% paid on July 2nd and 50% + bonus paid on August 11th)
  • Bonus/Mileage/Meal Reimbursement when staying overnight in hotel: ($20 per day)  (*Paid on August 11th and only if all agreed upon tournaments are attended for the duration of that event)
  • Bonus/Mileage/Meal Reimbursement when not staying overnight in hotel: ($10 per day) (*Paid on August 11th and only if all agreed upon tournaments are attended for the duration of that event)
  • Arriving late, leaving early and/or missing an agreed upon day to work will result in a $100 deduction from your compensatory credit.
  • Fully paid/free hotel accommodations.
  • Full college credit for the semester with your college or university.
  • Onboarding, Training, Mentoring and Shadowing.
  • Practical and on the job training.
  • Successful interns are first considered and routinely hired as paid contractors and part and full time staff for future events after successfully completing the internship program..
