NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Four (4)
DUTIES: Under direction of a supervisory official within the New Jersey Racing Commission, conducts pre-race examinations of the horses to determine racing soundness, observes horses during the races and post-race, handles on-track emergencies, takes blood samples from horses and performs other related duties as required. This position may require non-traditional work hours, on an as needed basis, including evenings and/or weekends on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) with a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or completion of the training program administered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of VeterinaryEducation Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in the fieldof animal diseasecontrol or laboratory diagnostic work.
LICENSE: Appointees must possessa passing grade, as determined by the test sponsor, on the NationalBoard Exam and theClinical Competency test or equivalent test, or passageof the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
NOTE: Appointees shall have been a resident of the State of New Jersey for at least five (5) years in accordance with N.J.S.A. 5:5-25.
PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to applicants who possess experience with horses.
NOTE: These Special Services positions will be filled on a part-time, temporary basis including evenings and/or weekends on short deadlines for certain assignments, with or without advance notice. Candidates selected to fill vacancies will be limited to 944 work hours each fiscal year.
