Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Sales & Applications Engineer to join our team at ONICON Inc. The ability to communicate well is of the highest importance in this position.  The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment is required. This position also requires strong interpersonal relationship skills due to the level of interaction with people both inside and outside of the company. This candidate will be responsible for inbound phone calls and e-mails from customers, representatives, and consulting engineers. The candidate for Sales & Applications Engineer position will respond to all correspondence in a cordial and technically sound manner.  In addition, Sales & Applications Engineer will initiate calls to customers to ask about technical issues with respect to orders, request for quotations, and specifications. This is an ON-SITE, in Largo FL position.

Essential Functions:

  • Works cooperatively and constructively with our Customer Service Team, Regional and Territory Sales Managers, and Independent Sales Reps to meet annual sales goals and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and maintains strong technical and applications expertise with all ONICON products.
  • Develops and maintains expertise with ONICON’s order entry system. 
  • Prepares quotations and responds to technical inquiries in a timely manner in response to customer requests. Supports our independent reps in these efforts also.
  • Able to read and comprehend engineering specifications and drawings and suggest the appropriate ONICON products to quote and submit, including pointing out exceptions to the specification.
  • Supports preparing submittal packages and special wiring & installation diagrams for customers as required.
  • Provides technical support and assistance to our Customer Service group, especially on large or complex orders.
  • Provides direct support for high-profile projects and technical service issues as required.
  • Attends trade shows in a supporting role, along with a senior associate.
  • Assists service department with technical troubleshooting and product returns as required.
  • Provides feedback and assistance to the Product Management Team with respect to the development of sales and technical documentation.
  • Provides direction, guidance, and coaching to less experienced Sales Engineers, and Customer Service personnel.
  • Able to work cooperatively with the Engineering and Product Management Department to create SDOs (special deviation orders) to meet special customer requests when approved by management.
  • Participates in training seminars for customers and offsite engineering training sessions (lunch and learns). Works cooperatively and constructively with the Customer Service Team, Regional and Territory Sales Managers, and Independent Sales Reps to meet annual sales goals and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities as requested by the Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, Sales Logix
  • CAD experience helpful
  • A four-year degree in an engineering discipline is preferred with 2+ years in HVAC or building automation related fields.
  • Two-year technical degree and 6+ years of related experience may be considered.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Occasional standing and walking within the office environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs for handling product samples, literature, or trade show materials.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, trade shows, or training sessions (may involve walking, standing for long periods, and carrying presentation materials).
  • Visual acuity to read engineering drawings, specifications, and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability to participate in conversations and phone calls effectively.
