Events and Marketing Intern

Location: Crested Butte, Colorado 
Start/End Date: Mid-May through September 30, 2026. We require a season-long commitment.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION 

The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of enriching the lives of people with disabilities and other specific needs through exceptional outdoor adventures. www.adaptivesports.org  

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Events & Marketing Intern is responsible for assisting the Development Department in planning, marketing, and implementing our two primary fundraising events, the Crested Butte Open and Bridges of the Butte. The intern also assists in the office with database management, capturing and managing social media content, and administrative and other special projects.  

This position will provide a hands-on opportunity for someone who is interested in learning and applying skills in event planning, marketing, and general nonprofit management. The Events & Marketing Intern works closely with experienced nonprofit professionals while playing a pivotal role in the success of the Adaptive Sports Center’s fundraising strategy. 

This position reports to the Development and Marketing Managers. 

 

SCHEDULE 

Monday – Friday 

40 hours per week 

Occasional Weekends and Evenings, especially around events 

 

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Coordinate with the Development Manager to plan pre-event logistics including guest lists, sponsorship, mailings, marketing, programs, volunteers, staffing, donations, and more. 
  • Oversee auction item organization, tracking, and management. 
  • Participate in event management and success, including event setup, various event tasks as assigned, and event cleanup. 
  • Assist with database management, donor research, and general outreach. 
  • Create and share engaging content, including text, graphics, and videos that promote the ASC. 
  • Occasionally capture photo and video content on ASC lessons.  
  • Assist marketing manager in developing a social media content strategy and calendar. 
  • Monitor comments and direct messages on social media platforms. 
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas/campaigns. 
  • Organize ASC photo and video assets as needed. 
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Interest in and/or knowledge of marketing, advertising, and public relations for a non-profit organization. 
  • Interest in and/or knowledge of event planning and non-profit fundraising practices. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Organizational and general office skills. 
  • Motivation, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. 
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize various large and small tasks/projects. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong computer competency, proficiency in Microsoft Suite Products. 
  • A clear driving record with no violations in the last three years (you will be expected to drive company vehicles during event season). 

 

Additional Skills Preferred 

  • Proficiency in design platforms, including video editing apps, Adobe Suite, and Canva. 
  • Knowledgeable in social media marketing. 
  • Experience with people with disabilities. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk or hear. 
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Vision requirements include close, distant, color, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus. 

 

Benefits 

While these are unpaid internships, interns receive compensation in multiple different ways: 

Accommodation 

Intern housing is provided by the Adaptive Sports Center.  All interns will live together in the Adaptive Building located in the town of Crested Butte. The ASC will dictate the terms of the lease.  Intern housing is valued at $725+/month with utilities included. Laundry is available on site. Interns will be asked to provide the ASC with a refundable security deposit of $600 each. The deposit check is held through the end of the season and will only be deposited if charges are incurred. 

Monthly Stipend 

A $400/month stipend is provided to all full-time interns.
