New Jersey Black Empowerment Coalition Intern
Position Overview
The New Jersey Black Empowerment Coalition (NJBEC) is seeking a motivated, community-centered Intern to support event planning and execution, sponsorship outreach, and community engagement. Interns will directly assist with outreach efforts, NJBEC’s upcoming Gala on March 25th, and the Community Healthcare Town Hall series, in addition to other NJBEC community events and initiatives.
This internship is a great opportunity for students or early-career professionals, particularly those interested in public policy, nonprofit operations, advocacy, and community organizing. Working closely with NJBEC leadership, the intern will assist with coordinating events, supporting outreach efforts, and helping with promotional activities, gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit program management and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Event Planning & Execution
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing NJBEC community events and fundraisers, including the March 25th Gala and Community Healthcare Town Hall series.
- Support event logistics, including materials preparation, vendor coordination, and on-site setup and breakdown.
- Help ensure smooth event-day operations and a positive experience for participants.
Sponsorship & Partner Outreach
- Support outreach to potential event sponsors, partners, and community supporters.
- Assist with follow-up communications, confirmations, and acknowledgments.
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Assist with outreach to community members, organizations, and stakeholders to promote events and initiatives.
- Support relationship-building and coalition engagement efforts.
Volunteer & Event Support
- Assist in coordinating short-term and event-day volunteers.
- Help manage volunteer schedules and assignments for events.
Tracking & Documentation
- Help track event participation, outreach efforts, and sponsorship activity.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with preparing brief summaries related to events and outreach.
Qualifications
Education:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Communications, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Previous volunteer work, student organization involvement, or coursework related to event planning, outreach, or nonprofit programs is a plus.
Skills:
Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks; interest in community engagement and nonprofit work; willingness to learn and work collaboratively.
Logistics:
Reliable transportation or ability to travel to events in New Jersey as needed.
Compensation & Schedule

Hourly Rate: $15 per hour
Schedule: Part-time; flexible hours to be determined. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for events.
