Summer Camp Support
Job Summary: Summer Camp Support Staff report to the Club Director and are responsible for acting as a substitute if a fellow staff member is out due to illness or emergency. Must be willing to jump in at a moment's notice and create a safe but exciting program space for our youth. Must be cooperative, friendly, and maintain a high level of communication with all staff and youth. Abide by and support the Club’s mission, vision, and values to provide a safe and positive environment for our youth.
This position is at a Day Camp. Lodging, meals, etc. are not provided.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)
- Create a warm, kind, welcoming, and supportive environment for all youth.
- Maintain a clean work environment that reflects the mission, vision, and values of the Boys & Girls Club of Wooster.
- Responsible for maintaining high standards of safety during the camp day.
- Build positive, appropriate relationships with every Club member.
- Ensure that youth are following behavior and safety guidelines at all times.
- Enable and empower all youth to take good care of their shared spaces, including cleaning up after themselves.
- Provide supervision at the community pool.
- Resolve and mediate occasional disagreements between youth.
- May be required to:
- Facilitate pre-planned camp activities with youth in grades K-7
- Chaperone off-site field trips
- Perform first aid and maintain accurate incident logs.
- Maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with participants, including but not limited to NO CONTACT with Club participants via text message, social media, or other messaging apps while employed by BGCW.
- Accept other assignments as directed.
Requirements
- Pass background check.
- CPR and First Aid Certified preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years experience in youth programs is required.
- Considerable knowledge of the mission, vision, values, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs and the basic principles and practices of non-profit organizations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with club staff and families.
- The desire and ability to motivate and excite campers in order to have a great time.
- Able to maintain a calm manner in stressful and/or emergency situations,
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be available to attend our paid Staff Training May 28-May 29 (dates & times may change if the Wooster School District utilizes make up days at the end of the school year.)
- Must be available to work M-F, June 1-July 31. Time off for vacations will not be permitted.
- Staff will have June 19 off in observance of Juneteenth.
- Staff will have June 29-July 3 off in observance of Independence Day and for a mid-summer break.
