Construction Project Assistant

About the role

This role is for recent or upcoming college graduates who want to build a career in construction operations and project management while working on high‑quality horse arenas, round pens, ranch development, and related sitework across Texas and nationally.  **Heavy Travel in this position**

You’ll work closely with an experienced Working Foreman and Owners, splitting time between the field and basic project/admin tasks, with a clear path into a lead/foreman position as you gain experience.

What you’ll do

  • Assist with daily planning: help the foreman / owner organize tasks, track progress, and keep materials and tools ready so production stays on schedule.
  • Help with layout and grades: pull measurements, set stakes, use lasers or other layout tools, and learn how elevation, slopes, and drainage impact performance.
  • Handle basic documentation: daily photos, simple field reports, timekeeping support, and notes on extra work/changes.
  • Communicate with the team: relay information between field and office, help track material needs and deliveries, and maintain a professional presence with clients on-site.
  • Assist field crews building horse arenas, round pens, related sitework, and full ranch development from start to finish, learning how to run efficient, safe jobsites.
  • Support equipment operations: work around skid steers, tractors, and excavators; over time learn to safely operate selected machines under supervision.
  • Support safety and site organization: help with daily safety checks, site housekeeping, and basic compliance documentation.
  • Learn equestrian‑specific quality standards: footing depths, base prep, compaction, drainage performance, and details that matter for horses and riders.

What you’ll learn

  • Fundamentals of running a crew: planning work, sequencing tasks, and managing time and resources.
  • Exposure to heavy equipment operations, survey/layout tools, and basic project controls.
  • Hands‑on understanding of grading, drainage, and footing systems unique to equestrian arenas.
  • How a small, specialized construction company runs projects from bid to close‑out.

Ideal for

  • Recent or upcoming grads in construction management, ag/animal science, engineering tech, business, or related fields who want to be in the field—not behind a desk full‑time.
  • Students with farm, ranch, ag, or horse backgrounds who enjoy physical work and travel and want a long‑term career path in construction.

High performers in this role can grow into:

  • Working Foreman (leading 2–6 person field crews).
  • Project Coordinator / Assistant Project Manager roles with more planning and client interaction.

Minimum qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree completed or in final semester (construction‑related or relevant experience preferred, but not required).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; comfortable with heavy travel and overnight stays during the week.
  • Willing and physically able to work outdoors in varying conditions, lift 50+ lbs, and be on your feet most of the day.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn; able to take direction and ask questions when unsure.
  • Basic communication and organization skills; comfortable using a smartphone/tablet for photos and simple reporting.

Nice to have (not required)

  • Prior experience in construction, farm/ranch, equipment operation, or hands‑on outdoor work.
  • Comfort around horses or equestrian facilities.
  • Mechanical aptitude (basic maintenance or repair experience).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
