Communications Intern

Position Information:

  • Start Date: June 8 – August 28, 2026
  • Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday; 9:00 – 5:00pm)
  • Location: St Paul, MN (Hybrid)
  • Compensation: $20.00/hour

Intern, Communications

We’re seeking a motivated intern to support our communication efforts. In this role, you’ll assist with media research and pitching to expand our earned media reach, help launch corporate storytelling blogs and create innovative content highlighting Minnesota Public Radio’s community engagement work and support internal communications that align team members with organizational goals to improve performance and agility.

You will also operate as part of a small and dynamic communications function and will gain valuable insight into operational decision-making and responsive communications in an often fast-paced media organization.

 

Key Learning Goals:

The goal of this internship is to provide immersive learning and real-world experience through impactful projects. Goals include:

  • Develop strategic communications skills
  • Build media relations expertise
  • Strengthening writing and storytelling abilities
  • Learn project and workflow management

 

Responsibilities:

In this hands-on role, you will provide support in the following areas:

Media relations

  • Campaign research and PR planning
  • Research and media list building for pitches
  • Maintenance and improvement of media monitoring, alerts and reporting outputs

Internal Communications

  • Drafting, editing and sending company emails, meeting invitations, and blog post updates for staff
  • Update internal company intranet site
  • Assisting with planning and execution for virtual and or hybrid all-company meetings

Corporate communications

  • Creating content calendars for social and corporate blog
  • Managing asset creation for social and owned channels
  • Drafting and reviewing corporate communication

Programming:

  • Participate in a robust on-boarding experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduates (within the past 18 months)
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship
  • Must be able work in the office (St. Paul, MN) at least 2 days per week
  • Currently pursuing or have earned a degree in Communications, Strategic Communications / Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies or a related field
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic interest in public media and radio, podcasts, and/or communications/public relations
  • Strong digital/computer skills (typing/word processing, email, internet research, etc.)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with Outlook and Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously while under deadline
