Media and Communications Student Assistant
The New York State Office of General Services Public Information Office (PIO) communicates with the media, monitors Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) responses, organizes press conferences, and develops marketing strategies to increase public awareness of OGS initiatives. The PIO is responsible for shaping the agency’s internal and external communications, in alignment with OGS’s strategic plan, and guiding the development of high-impact messaging for external audiences, partners, and internal stakeholders.
Assist with researching topics relevant to OGS’s portfolio of work, drafting press releases, media advisories, briefing documents, and talking points.
Participate in the development of internal communications outputs, including the OGS newsletter and quarterly all-staff call.
Maintain media distribution lists; monitor traditional and social media outlets for news concerning OGS’s work; compile daily press clippings; and draft regular reports on the Public Information Office’s outputs.
Assist in planning and organizing press-centered events, preparing invitations and promotional material, including flyers, brochures, and other collateral, and supporting the setup and logistics.
Maintain a calendar of key OGS media events and opportunities, support OGS media outreach and major events in coordination with other state agencies and authorities.
Schedule: Open to any configuration of days from M-F, and work hours between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
