Horticulture Intern

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Have good verbal communication skills
  • Be studying or have a background related to plant production, botany, horticulture, land management, environmental science, biology, or ecology

The position of Horticulture Intern directly involves but is not limited to the following duties:

  1. Assists with propagation, watering, transplanting, and general care of native plants. Supports greenhouse operations including organization, sanitation, and monitoring plant health, as well as preparation of plants for plant sales and restoration projects, while following greenhouse safety and best practices.
  2. Assists with the collection, cleaning, propagation, planting, and record keeping regarding native seed species and the native seed nursery.
  3. Operates a variety of equipment, including but not limited to the following: mowers, power tools such as saws, drills, table saw, router, and string trimmers.
  4. Assists in the day-to-day operation of the greenhouse, native plant nursery, and stewardship facilities.
  5. Regularly works with volunteers and assists park visitors when needed. Must be courteous and helpful at all times.
  6. Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds, perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in greenhouse and outdoor conditions.
  7. Works flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays when assigned.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Stewardship Specialist or Stewardship Manager, that are deemed appropriate and necessary for the position and the Stewardship Department.
  9. Must be team oriented and willing to work to build an atmosphere of teamwork in the workplace with staff at all levels.
