SUMMARY:
The Product Management Intern is responsible for supporting the growth, profitability, and financial return of the company’s product portfolio through disruptive innovation and customer insight. They contribute to building a profitable and innovative product portfolio that aligns with product and brand strategies, company objectives and customer needs. This Intern role will provide support for various Product Managers and product portfolios, contributing to market research and analysis that go into establishing and maintaining profitable product portfolios. They will be expected to quantify information, summarize and present proposals and recommendations for product, position, pricing and how claims can be leveraged to influence sales.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Help to identify and develop new and innovative products delivering against unmet customer needs and increase customer satisfaction.
- Assist in product development projects; delivering high quality proposals and information to be considered in team-based decision making.
- Conduct market and customer research to refine product and/or brand categories to best meet customer needs.
- Provide recommendations to refresh the portfolio of products; ensure products align with customer needs, ensure products meet brand and style guidelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams through the product development process.
- Follow product development process is utilized to include consideration for environmental, regulatory, competitor products, consumer trends, unmet consumer needs, experience in developing and qualifying (R&D, Legal) differentiated marketing claims.
- Collaborate with brand marketing in support of new product introductions; prepare product for commercial retail to include the development of packaging, artwork, promotional campaigns, and sales materials.
- Ensure product development, manufacturing and fulfillment is cost efficient
- Develop and execute product strategies that are aligned with the brand and product segment; continuously analyze market data, sales data and financial margins against forecast and modify strategy accordingly to maximize product Return on Investment (ROI).
- Utilize pricing strategies to establish proposed pricing changes to product.
- Gain experience with product lifecycle management; to include cost savings, SKU rationalization and E&O disposition.
- All other duties, learning objectives and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to be successful in this role.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in a Marketing, Engineering or Business discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Works well in a team atmosphere.
- Able to multi-task, organize, and prioritize – a self-starter mentality.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving and analysis skills.
- Great attention to detail and possess poise, a strong work ethic, and the ability to interact with people in a professional manner while having fun and generating the required results.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including, but not limited to, Excel, Word and Outlook.
