HSE Intern

Job Title: HSE Intern

Location: Hybrid - Houston, TX

Travel: Up to 10%


POSITION PURPOSE:   
This is a paid temporary, non-exempt position that will report to the Director, HSEQ. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HSE Intern to support our Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives within the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry. The purpose of this position is to play a key role in developing and updating our Emergency Response Planning documents and establishing the HSE dashboard. This role offers hands-on experience in developing and implementing safety programs, environmental compliance, and risk management practices in a rapidly growing renewable energy sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining HSE documentation, including emergency planning and environmental compliance.
  • Provide support and expertise in developing HSE Dashboarding for active BESS facilities. Initial focus will be in Hazardous Energy Control, Fire Suppression Systems and Spill Prevention.
  • Support incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up.
  • Participate in site safety audits and inspections identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop training materials and safety awareness campaigns for employees and contractors.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis for environmental performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and sustainability.
  • All other duties as required

WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and battery storage technologies.
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat based document editing.
  • Basic understanding of HSE principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems or renewable energy projects.
  • Experience with safety management systems or auditing processes.
  • Pursuing a degree in Renewable Energy, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of working at a computer
  • Minimum of one day in-person at the Houston office per week
