Mobile Outreach Assistant Service-Learning Position

Position Description
The Mobile Outreach service-learning internship provides the opportunity for hands-on experience in serving underserved and underrepresented park guests. The intern will work closely with the unit Naturalist 2 to assist with the summer program called “Kids Nature Lunch & Learn”. This service-learning intern will help connect park guests to nature through lessons and activities while spending time outdoors.

Schedule

  • Date(s): June 3, 2026 – August 7, 2026
  • 15 hours/week Wednesday-Friday from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Responsibilities and Requirements

The Kids Nature Lunch & Learn Series is an annual summer program where the Mobile Outreach team travels to various locations across the Park District with the NatureTracks, a mobile nature center. Youth participants who attend also receive a free lunch provided by the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s Summer Meals Program. The service-learning intern will help staff prepare and set up for programs, ensuring that the space is ready and welcoming for all guests and participants. This may include setting up displays, organizing educational materials, and providing staff with necessary supplies. The intern will also help to engage with community members throughout the course of programs, helping to provide a positive, educational experience. 

Requirements

  • Currently a junior/senior in high school or enrolled in a college/university
  • Interest in environmental interpretation, education, natural resources, wildlife management, or a related field
  • Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups of up to 30 people
  • Willing and able to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education and activities
  • Comfortable lifting at least 25 lbs. 
  • Enjoys working outdoors
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
