Student Research Assistant - Work Study

Position Purpose: The role will be to help the team’s research coordinators conduct activities required for research protocols. Specifically, the SRA will help with medical record review of genetic testing and health history for two national registry studies, INSIGHTS and GALAXY.

 

Job Description: The Student Research Assistant (SRA) will work within the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics with the eXtraOrdinarY Kids Team. The eXtraOrdinarY Kids Clinic is an internationally recognized clinic and research hub for pediatric patients with sex chromosome aneuploidy. This will include reviewing medical charts, extracting data, and recording data in REDCap, Research Electronic Data Capture system. Additionally, the SRA will obtain genetic testing records from outside institutions through a Release of Records process. The SRA will be supervised and will report to Dr. Shanlee Davis, principal investigator. Research coordinator Kayla Molison will provide additional training and supervision. There will be regular meetings of the SRA with supervisors.  Formal discussions will be held every one to two weeks, though ad hoc discussions and supervision will be available as needed. The degree of active supervision will depend on the successful applicant’s background and experience in clinical research. Examples of work performed: Study participant recruitment, recording of clinical information, data entry, data query resolution, basic analyses presentations, retrieval of medical record from outside institutions, and medical record review for study purposes.

 

Eligibility Requirements:  

This position requires you to have completed a bachelor's degree in genetics, biology, or related field, and currently be enrolled in a graduate program. Certifications in CITI Good Clinic Practice and Health Information Privacy and Security are required prior to or shortly after employment begins.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Careful attention to detail

Ability to work with a team and independently

Understanding of genetic testing preferred  

Ability to utilize Windows-based computers for communication, data extraction, and completion of reporting forms 

Experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel and Microsoft Team  

Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

 

Length of Employment: Up to 2 years

 

Pay Range: $16.22–25.99/hr
