Position Summary
Philo High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Mathematics Teacher to join our instructional team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, standards-aligned mathematics instruction that promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, and mathematical reasoning while contributing positively to the culture of a close-knit rural school community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver instruction aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics for grades 9–12.
Teach assigned mathematics courses, which may include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Statistics, or other secondary math courses based on licensure and building needs.
Emphasize mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and real-world applications.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, English learners, and gifted students.
Incorporate instructional technology, graphing tools, and digital resources to enhance student learning.
Support student preparedness for state assessments, graduation requirements, and postsecondary pathways.
Assessment & Student Growth
Develop and administer formative and summative assessments.
Use student data to inform instruction, provide targeted feedback, and support continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate grade records in accordance with district expectations.
Classroom Environment & Student Support
Establish clear academic and behavioral expectations consistent with Philo High School procedures.
Maintain a structured, respectful, and safe classroom environment.
Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, counselors, and administrators regarding academic performance and concerns.
Professional Responsibilities
Collaborate with mathematics department colleagues and participate in curriculum alignment and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required school events.
Perform assigned duties such as hall supervision, intervention periods, advisory/homeroom, or other responsibilities as needed.
Support and model Philo High School’s commitment to academic integrity, positive behavior, and student engagement.
Adhere to district policies, building procedures, and professional ethics.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) Mathematics
Knowledge of Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics
Ability to work effectively with high school students in a rural school setting
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field
High school mathematics teaching experience
Experience with curriculum development, intervention strategies, or College Credit Plus (CCP)
Strong instructional technology skills
Willingness to serve as an advisor, coach, or club sponsor
Work Environment
Classroom and school-based setting
Regular interaction with students, staff, and families
Occasional after-school or evening commitments related to school events
