Parks Marketing Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to plan, manage, implement, and coordinate a variety of communications and social media activities to make citizens aware of St. Charles County Parks. The position is responsible for working with other divisions and staff members in the Parks Department, County Communications Department, and local media outlets. The Parks Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for preparing written information, graphics and to develop internal and external publications and social media messages. The work is performed under the direction of the parks Office Manager.

• Works internally with the department and the County Communications to develop branded print materials to inform the public and employees of essential news and activities of St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department.
• Serves as a resource for developing ideas, layouts, graphic design, print specifications and request for proposals.
• Plans, researches, writes, produces and distributes internal communications, Park Newsletter, Program activity guides, brochures, digital media content, and other similar public outreach publications.
• Works with printers, graphic artist, photographers, artists, and mail distribution contractors.
• Serves as the Department's brand manager ensuring that all communications meet the strict standards set in our Department Branding Guide making sure park logos and slogans are used properly. Works with County Communications Department to ensure Brand Standards guide is up to date and accurate.
• Implements and monitors social media accounts across multiple platforms for Parks Department.
• Works with communications to ensure park staff have up to date social media policy forms and oversees departmental compliance with Communications.
• Manages and submits all departmental print request and video request to Communications.
• Drafts, updates and manages content to keep the Parks Department Website current and fresh.
• Works with Communications and Information Systems to ensure department's reservation software system is current and visually appealing.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates public relations activities such as speaking engagements, public outreach activities, park openings and special events.
• Coordinates with multiple park divisions to gather newsworthy content, photos and information for developing written materials.
• Communicates with and responds to inquiries from the public via phone, web and social media regarding park activities.
• Provides timely updates to website and social media during weather closures, trail and Blueway closures or other park issues.
• Serves as the department's communication liaison for media request. Informs Communications Department of request and coordinates with Communications to ensure all media request are met.
• Videotapes and/or takes photographs for use in publications, slide shows, and special events.
• Monitors print, news and social media for coverage of department activities.
• Manages departmental communications budget for mailings, advertisements, and printing. Submits operational and capital request to Parks Director annually.
• Creates professional marketing materials with desktop publishing and graphic design software including Microsoft Office, and Adobe Suite.
• May be periodically required to assist in Park Programming and activities outside of normal job duties and hours.
• Works with park staff to organize programs, events and pursue grants and sponsorships.
• Assists with and/or conducts tours of county park facilities.
• Performs routine office work such as answering phones, copying, and maintaining appropriate office files.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Education
-Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Parks and Recreation Management, Communications, Advertising, or closely related

• Experience
-3-5 years of related public information or community relations experience including preparing news releases and articles, developing printed materials, web content, and brochures.

• Certifications
-Valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities
-Knowledge of modern principles, techniques, and objectives of public information and community relations programs. Must have skills in researching topics and developing background information utilizing various sources.
-Must have well-developed computer skills including proficiency in software for desktop and web publishing, including Adobe Creative Suite and web content management systems as well as knowledge and understanding of a wide range of social media tools.
-Photography and video skills helpful.
-Requires flexibility of schedule, including evenings and weekend work when necessary.
