Civic Programs Intern - The Shed NYC

We are seeking a motivated college intern to join The Shed’s Civic Programs Department for the Summer of 2026. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in socially engaged art, community-centered practice, and the role of arts institutions in public life. In addition to supporting ongoing programs, the intern will design and execute an independent project and final presentation that aligns with The Shed’s Civic mission while also reflecting their own
interests, questions, and areas of growth.


Key Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with other interns and team members on various initiatives tied to Civic Programs projects: Open Call (a large-scale commissioning program for early career, multidisciplinary artists), Public Programs (free and participatory artistic events open to the public), Resource Fairs (organizing to connect folks across the city to resources that they need across sectors), and Government and Community Partnerships (including the West Side Cultural Network’s 4th annual West Side Fest - a weekend of free programming hosted by 20 arts and culture organizations along the west side of Manhattan)
● Collaborate directly with artists to help ensure they have the logistical, relational, and institutional support they need to realize their work
● Assist in research, project management, event coordination and logistics, and marketing initiatives
● Meet with staff across every department and shadow team members at The Shed, in order to gain a holistic understanding of how a multidisciplinary cultural institution functions and how interdepartmental collaboration supports civic impact


Qualifications:
● Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in artistic fields, education, cultural studies, civic or government affairs
● Strong interest in artistic fields (performing and/or visual arts)
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Proficient in google suite (gmail, google calendar, drive, docs, sheets, etc)
● Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
● Strong initiative; self-starter energy
