Position Summary
LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans invites applications for a Staff Scientist position within the Center of Excellence in Neuroscience. Under the broad oversight of a faculty member, the Staff Scientist will conduct independent and team-based scientific research in a collaborative and dynamic laboratory environment.
This position is immediately available to study the mechanisms of aging, synaptic structural plasticity, and neurodegeneration using Drosophila and mouse models. Working under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator, the successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research, design and perform experiments, prepare manuscripts, and present research findings at scientific meetings.
Additional responsibilities include contributing to laboratory operations and mentoring junior researchers. Strong candidates will demonstrate excellent experimental skills in molecular biology and biochemistry, along with a strong enthusiasm for basic research. Experience in genetics and neuroscience is preferred but not required. Comprehensive training will be provided, and motivated individuals will have opportunities to develop toward an independent research career.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- PhD in Basic Sciences or Health Sciences
Experience:
- 0–2 years of postdoctoral research experience
