The Bringing the Change Program
The goal of the Program is to empower students to improve academic skills and avoid summer slide. The program uses math and language arts curricula that encourage dialogue and collaboration. Students will apply literacy skills to issues relevant to their lives. Through group discussion and cooperative learning in math, students will develop and practice the efficacy, social skills, and work habits necessary for academic success in the 21st century.
This program will be run over the course of 5 weeks during the summer
Responsibilities
Foster community among students
Encourage development of math and language arts skills
Support creative problem solving
Plan and implement recreational activities
Encourage enthusiasm and team spirit among students
Participate in initial 15-hour training, parent orientation, weekly staff meetings and closing celebration
Other responsibilities as needed
Reports to Site Coordinator and Program Director
Optional participation in leadership seminar that meets twice a week, 6-8 PM
Qualifications
Energetic, charismatic, reliable self-starter
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity in working with high-need inner-city students
Ability to build rapport with middle school-age students
Strong math and language arts skills
Enrollment in or completion of college program
Experience managing inner-city students preferred
40 hours/week
