Biology Faculty
BridgeValley invites applications for the Biology Faculty position in the Academic Affairs department beginning August 2026. This position will be located on our South Charleston campus but may require teaching at both the Montgomery and South Charleston campuses as well as teaching online or blended courses. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty position. The salary range for this position is 40,000-45,000. Actual salary offer will be commensurate with education and experience.
Examples of Duties:
Instruction & Student Support
1. Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses, using in-person, online, or hybrid formats as scheduled by the College and Division Dean.
2. Fulfill assigned teaching load in accordance with institutional policy.
3. Maintain regular on-campus office hours to provide advising, mentoring, and support that promote student retention and success.
4. Ensure timely publication of course syllabi, submission of grades, and completion of required course documentation by institutional deadlines.
5. Advise, mentor, and recruit students in support of program enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
6. Participate in professional development activities and apply insights to improve teaching effectiveness and support the College’s strategic plan.
7. Complete course and program-level assessment activities to support continuous improvement and compliance with academic standards.
Institutional Engagement
1. Maintain a minimum on-campus presence of 25 hours per week, including instructional and office hours, with remaining weekly hours devoted to required meetings, course development, research, workforce development, student engagement, and planning/evaluation activities.
2. Attend and actively participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and events, including student registration, orientation, and commencement ceremonies as scheduled.
3. Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives that advance the mission, vision, and goals of the College.
Compliance & Reporting
1. Prepare and submit required documentation and reports to support accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies, including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the U.S. Department of Education, and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC).
2. Ensure that instructional practices, documentation, and reporting align with institutional and academic standards.
Program Development & Sustainability
1. Support the quality, stability, and sustainability of assigned academic programs through active participation in curriculum development, student recruitment, program review and grant attainment.
2. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to strengthen program viability and align offerings with workforce and community needs.
Other
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission, vision, and goals of the College.
Qualifications:
Required
1. Master's degree in Biology or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in, or applicable to, qualification for teaching Anatomy and Physiology.
2. College or university teaching experience of 1 year or more
3. Excellent communication skills both written and oral
4. Ability to create supportive and motivating learning environments for students.
5. Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.
6. Commitment to professional development, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning.
7. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on curriculum development, departmental initiatives, and institutional goals.
Preferred
1. Familiarity with current teaching methodologies, pedagogical theories, and best practices in Biology.
2. Understanding of curriculum development, assessment standards, and accreditation requirements in higher education.
3. Proficiency with educational technology tools and learning management systems (e.g., Banner, Early Alert systems).
4. Additional qualification to teach Microbiology and Nutrition and Diet Therapy
5. Anatomy and Physiology teaching experience
