The Granville County DSS enhances the quality of life for residents through programs supporting the vulnerable, aged, young, sick, and economically disadvantaged. Our Child Protective Services unit investigates reports of child neglect, abuse, and dependency while responding to crisis situations to protect at-risk children.
Primary Purpose
This advanced professional role provides protective, investigative, counseling, and case management services for children at risk of neglect or abuse. The Social Worker I A&T handles the most complex cases, often requiring immediate crisis response, expert court testimony, and follow-up case management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment & Investigation (80%) – Conduct family/investigative assessments, safety checks, interviews, and client visits.
- Crisis Intervention (30%) – Lead Child & Family Team meetings, provide after-hours coverage, and offer counseling services.
- Documentation & Administration (25%) – Maintain accurate case records, complete required reports, and attend meetings/trainings.
- Court Involvement (15%) – Prepare reports and testify at hearings including adjudications, permanency planning, and TPR.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of social work principles, family dynamics, child development, and treatment theories.
- Ability to motivate resistant clients, assess safety in high-risk environments, and make urgent decisions under stress.
- Strong documentation, case management, negotiation, and expert testimony skills.
