Research Technician I
Description: The Research Technician I will support the research activities of the organization by performing laboratory preparation, scientific experiments, and maintenance activities.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Perform research activities as assigned according to established procedures and methods.
- Support research activities of coworkers by preparing buffers, medias, reagents, and ensuring materials and laboratory spaces are clean and orderly.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment, as necessary, according to established procedures.
- Document all research activities and maintenance tasks in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
- Assist with research projects and contribute to the development of new protocols and methodologies.
- Participate in laboratory meetings and present findings to laboratory staff.
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Prepare basic reports, as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology.
- Ability to follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Ability to follow written, standardized instructions and thoroughly document activities required.
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to operate electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in related field, with 0-2 yrs. of work experience required.
- AS degree in related field, with 2-5 yrs. experience in a laboratory research environment preferred.

- Occasionally moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.
- Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
