SUMMER CAMP DIRECTOR (TEMPORARY, 2026 Season)
Job Summary
The Camp Director reports directly to the Head of School and often communicates with members of the administration. S/he develops and supervises The Well School’s Summer Camp programs and ensures that campers are provided with positive learning and growth opportunities.
The start date on campus for this full-time position is estimated to be 6/01/26 - 8/19/26 with remote work (5-10 hours per week) starting this Spring. These dates may change slightly depending on the camp's opening, staff onboarding, and final evaluations.
Salary $ 15,000. Additional pay for remote work will be considered prior to the start of the camp session.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Camp Director will:
- Develop, schedule, and oversee the school’s summer camp operation.
- Collaborate with the Business Manager to oversee summer camp registrations.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff members.
- Organize and facilitate the summer camp, ensuring that all instructors perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism.
- Schedule regular meetings with program staff and instructors to develop, implement, and evaluate programs.
- Provide performance evaluations and feedback for staff involved with summer camps.
- Monitor camper progress and respond to any disciplinary issues.
- Ensure optimal condition and safety of all equipment and facilities.
- Communicate with parents.
- Create, maintain, and update all necessary records.
- Partner with the Director of Admissions to identify and introduce potential campers to The Well School's educational program.
- Work with the Business Manager to develop a budget.
- Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to create print and online marketing materials for the summer camp program, and to ensure cohesive communication with families.
- Prepare appropriate summary reports for the school, the trustees, and the public.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualification Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required or appropriate work experience
At least 3 to 5 years of teaching, leading, and/or administrative experience in a camp, school, outdoor education, or youth-serving organization
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Exceptional entrepreneurial and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively
Computer literacy
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
Current CPR and First Aid
Flexible with a good sense of humor
